WARDEN OF WILDERUN
Born 05/13/2018
Warden is a foundation Lupine Dog. He is from a cross between a female Irish Wolfhound mix bred by David Cunningham, and a Karelian Bear Dog sire imported from Finland from working lines. Warden's dam is 7% wolf via Embark DNA testing, but he himself Embark tested with no wolf genetic markers. He is 26.5in tall and 70lbs.
He is World of Lupines Foundation registered and has passed his temperament evaluation as a "Classic", and is also an approved outcross via the International Tamaskan Register and Tamaskan Dog Register for the Tamaskan Dog breed. He has had one litter born 01/25/2021 with Tamaskan Dog "Sylvaen Boreal Halo", call name River, with his second Tamaskan Dog litter planned for this fall with "Athena Mystic White Tamaska".
Warden has moderate angulation that is an improvement on his sire. Proportionally, he is a square bodied dog built much like a hunting spitz in type. He is always happy to learn or work as long as it means spending time with his people, and is very motivated by both praise/attention and food. He'll work for a piece of kibble just as readily as a pat on the head or a piece of dehydrated liver treat.
He is an exceptionally human social dog, always enthusiastic and gentle! Warden has never shown shyness or uncertainty when meeting new people of any sort, and adores children. He is quick to greet strangers both at home and out in public, but minds well when told to wait if we are hiking off leash and I don't want him to approach someone.
He is a working hunting dog on small game, and has a high prey drive. Warden can be around livestock and chickens off leash if supervised and reminded to be polite, and does not experience any predatory drift towards children or small dogs. He does not do well with most cats, as he was not raised around them and doesn't see them as a household animal.
He has done Therapy Dog visits to local nursing homes, and is working on titles in weight pull and nosework. He is great off leash, ecollar trained, and very handler-focused and responsive. He is environmentally stable and doesn't have any noise sensitivites.
Warden is selective of his same sex canine friends, but can still hike off leash with other well-mannered intact males with proper supervision.
He exhibits zero resource guarding behavior towards people and will cheerfully offer even high value items to you in exchange for a little bit of attention. This made it very easy to shape a retrieve with him -- he enjoys fetch and will bring downed game aniamls to hand when asked. He will guard high value food from other dogs, so we feed him separately when giving high value raw food.
